Learn How Athletes Can Get Rid of Acne
Athletes tend to care about their bodies. It is having a fit body that enables an athlete to perform at a top level. While having good skin is not necessary for good athletic performance, it is a part of caring for one’s body and personal appearance. People who play sports get acne just like everyone else, but does playing sports make it more difficult to get rid of acne? What are the special challenges for athletes trying to get rid of acne?
Does Playing Sports Lead to More Acne?
Athletic activity does not necessarily lead to more acne. It’s important to note that sweat does not cause acne. The “oiliness” that is a factor in acne has to do with the sebum produced by your skin’s sebaceous glands. How much sebum you produce is a function of your genetics, and has nothing to do with how much you sweat. However, athletes do tend to get dirty, and while, dirt is not the main product in acne, when combined with sweat and trapped underneath restrictive clothing, it can lead to clogged pores. Clogged pores are where acne forms, so the more clogged pores you have, the more susceptible you will be to acne outbreaks and athletes who don’t take precautions may end up with many clogged pores.
Does Playing Sports Make it More Difficult to Get Rid of Acne?
There are some ways in which playing sports can make getting rid of acne more of a challenge. First, acne can develop and be noticeable all over the body, including the back, which has a large surface area. Clearing an area like the back can be more challenging than clearing the face of acne, which has a smaller area to cover and which can easily be seen and treated by the individual who is suffering from the acne. In addition, if you are using a cream or lotion on your skin to treat acne and then going out to participate in sports, the sweat might cause the medication to drip off before it has a chance to work, and even if it does not, your post exercise shower may do the same thing. However, if you are suffering from a real acne problem, this does not mean you should give up on trying to get rid of acne.
How Can You Get Rid of Acne if You Play Sports?
To get rid of acne as an athlete, you simply need to be a bit more diligent than some others. Get an acne care system with benzoyl peroxide and be sure to use it as directed. Make sure to cover the entire affected area as many times as necessary. If you don’t have a friend or loved one who can assist you with this, try to find a tool that will allow you to access hard to reach areas. Time your treatments so that you won’t wash them off. If you participate in sports in the morning, apply your treatment after your post activity shower, rather than first thing in the morning. If you take care in your treatment, there’s no reason that you cannot get rid of acne as easily as someone who is not a regular participant in sports.
